My Big Fat Greek Novel

Coming soon to a βιβλιοπωλείο (<--bookstore) near you is Το Κυνήγι Των Απόηχω! That's Greek for "The Hunting of Echoes," since chasing those darn things is apparently too abstract. If you're subscribed to my newsletter, this is old news, but in case you missed it, Chasing Echoes is being released in Greece! Ebooks are coming out In January, and paperbacks in February. Black Lilies is also under contract to be released July 2021, with Spring of Crows following about six months later (assuming it's already been released in America). Celene Publishing plans to produce all three as audiobooks too, so that should be interesting.

So why Greece? Well, as Celene Publishing put it, "The truth is that here in Greece there are no books like yours, or if they exist, he [the company's editor] couldn't find them, and we believe that it will be a hit here." Kindle/KDP doesn't support the Greek language, and from my understanding young-adult novels are a bit scarce in selection. So while my book is a needle in a haystack here in the U.S., it's buried in a much smaller haystack in Greece. I think the whole thing is cool given that my series involves a little bit of Greek mythology. Nothing really in book 1 (other than the mention of the name "Gaia"), but book 2 reveals the name of the Aevos sisters' real mother (Themis), and book 3 will reveal even more about the girls' Titan ancestry. So it feels fitting to have this series being released in Greece.

Overall it's been such a fun experience working with Celene Publishing. They are super professional, communicative, and considerate. And they're doing everything. They're taking care of all the translations (each book has to go through two translators), the modified Greek cover, the new ISPNs, and all the marketing. It's nice to sit back, relax, and let someone else handle all the details. Once COVID is over, Celene Publishing wants me to go to Greece for a book-signing. I told them I'd have no idea how to talk to patrons of Greece when I only speak English, and they said they'd provide a translator. It's an awesome fantasy, but right now it sounds a little "too good to be true," and with this pandemic I've lost the ability to see past next month.
